One of the most popular and most widely celebrated holidays in Canada is no other than Canada Day. It is a federal statutory holiday because it is considered as the national day of the country. It is celebrated on the first day of July in lieu of the Constitution Act 1867 which has been enacted on July 1, 1867. This act united three colonies into a single state and country, the present-day Canada. Canada Day is truly a very important day for a lot of Canadians and a lot of them celebrate it by having a barbeque party. Do you plan to do the same as well? Here are some ideas for you to consider:

During very festive occasions such as Canada Day, it is okay to pig out a little. It is fun to stuff your stomach and satisfy your taste buds with very delicious grilled food. Now, you can always cook your own food, but it would be a lot better for you to have your food catered. This is so that you would not have to waste half of the holiday preparing your barbeque. Also, it would be nice if you can simply rely on the barbeque experts for some great food on a special day like Canada Day.
As a game or as a nice bonding activity, you might want to consider having a barbeque cookout. It can be just one small competition to determine which of you, your family, and even your friends cook the best barbeque. Choose one or more judges or simply let everybody get to taste the barbeque dishes of the contestants. This can be a nice activity since a lot of people really love to have barbeque on Canada day.
During Canada Day, a lot of people play games or even sports – activities that allow them to enjoy the presence of family and friends. What sport can be more Canadian than hockey? You do not need to go to a skating rink to play hockey. This well-beloved sport can be played by anyone at any large space. Some examples include your driveway, your lawn, or even your garage – if you have a very big one. It would be nice to do some physical activity so that those burgers you just downed can be metabolized easily.
You have the whole day to yourself for celebration. It would be nice if you and your family can watch a good movie as a good-bonding activity. It is always nice to watch something as you and your family enjoy those delicious grilled meals and side dishes. If you would watch one movie only, consider one that suits all ages. If you are to have a movie marathon, make sure everyone gets to have a say on which movie genres they would want to watch.
If you do not have some movies lined up for this special day, you might simply want to turn on the TV and look for a good channel to watch. During Canada Day, most TV channels are being festive about the holiday. Some channels even feature live coverage of parades, musical concerts, and other events being held throughout the country in lieu of the holiday. Some channels even have documentaries on the history of Canada.
You might also want to consider playing with firecrackers. If there are kids around, make sure your firecrackers are used away from them. It would also be nice to light up some fireworks especially at night when the dark night sky is ready to be filled with colourful light displays. You do not have to light your own firecrackers if you do not want to since other people would definitely be having their fireworks display on this very special day.
